Education

In an effort to increase awareness and disseminate helpful information, we launched the Kinship House Outreach Project in 2006.

Kinship House Outreach

Through generous funding from the Northwest Health Foundation, Kinship House clinicians are reaching out beyond the Portland Metro area to regions of Oregon that may be underserved and seek additional support. The Outreach Project includes trainings for parents and child welfare professionals as well as Child Welfare Assessments for children in foster care. Training topics have included:

Preparing Children for Adoption
How to Make a Life-Story Book
How to Talk to Kids about Adoption
Facilitating Goodbye/Good Luck Visits
Parenting Sexually Abused Children
Aspects of a Successful Transition.

Contact Kinship House if you are interested in attending an upcoming training.

Parent Support Groups

Are available to help
Foster and adoptive parents with children affected by prenatal exposure to drugs and/or alcohol.
Foster and adoptive parents with children experiencing attachment problems.
Birth parents whose children have been or are currently in foster care.

Birth Parent Support Services

include coaching, training and treatment such as therapeutic visitation, mental health therapy, and concrete parenting skills to facilitate returning children to their family of origin. All services are conducted by the Kinship House professional staff.
